We had our warmest (or one of our warmest) day(s) of the year yesterday! Just in time for an afternoon baseball game. Thank goodness for the breeze. The boys did great earning their second win of the season! Erik was absolutely amazing in his first two innings at pitcher, the third inning wasn't quite as awe inspiring, but still great pitching! He played catcher briefly, before switching to third and ended the game at centerfield. He was almost brought back to pitcher by his coach to close out the game. I guess in our rule books, if the pitcher never leaves the game and has available pitches he can return to the mound. Sadly, I don't think I have any pictures of him pitching (or playing baseball in a game) this year. We'll have to rectify that situation! ;)
We feel so blessed in the men that have mentored Erik as coaches in sports so far. His coaches want to teach the boys the game, but are very encouraging and are not putting pressure on the boys to perform at a certain level. We have a young team this year. The boys are working hard and are improving so much from game to game. After each game the coach reinforces how hard they have worked and how much they are improving. This is especially important this baseball season since the boys lost the first four games. The coaches are tweaking what Erik is doing, but not trying to change everything about his pitching. Over-coaching would destroy his confidence, doing more harm than good. It is a joy to see how happy and how much fun he is having playing--especially when he is on the mound. And with him a "happy pitcher" is an amazing pitcher. Bad news for our opponents, but great for our team!
