She was the Fall Fairy in the school recital production of Snow White. (Danced en pointe, this picture is from a rehearsal.) She also was one of the village maidens and part of the storm.
In addition to dance she participated in girl scouts and as an incoming 7th grader was eligible to join our church youth group during the summer. She had a great time attending Creation Fest with the youth and going to they YWAM base in Lakeside, Montana where they did some landscaping, painting/staining, flooring projects--basically just helping with routine repairs and maintenance around the base. She discovered they have a school of dance there and a summer of dance outreach program. While playing on the slip and slide one afternoon, it was demonstrated that "dancers always point their toes". Her friend Cassidy (also pointing her toes as she slides down the slip and slide) went on both of these trips with her.
In the fall she started 7th grade and her second year as a part of PDT's junior company. She was a swan and a wild duck in the school tour production of "The Ugly Duckling". She switched girl scout troops and is very happy with her new troop.
She was in her 7th Nutcracker this December dancing the parts of Sugar Angel and Ribbon Candy. (Elise is in the pink ribbon candy costume posing with a friend in the Angel costume.)
Erik's year wasn't quite as crazy as his sister's, but he managed to keep himself (and his chauffeurs) busy. In January he won the Webelo's 2 division in the Elk's Marble shoot. In February, he bridged from Webelos to Boy Scouts after earning all 20 Webelos activity badges.
Scouts from his new troop were there to welcome him (and another Webelo) to their troop by getting the boys into their new neckerchiefs and giving them their new Scout handbooks.
Here is Erik with the other "graduating" Webelo 2's, the scout master and their den leader. She did an awesome job decorating their arrows. Another boy's mom made the awesome banners with the boy's names. Very special mementos of their time as a Webelo Scout.
He entered Boy Scouts with his Scout rank and earned both Tenderfoot and 2nd Class this year. He and Mike went on a 10 mile canoe trip and overnight camp out during the summer.
He also kept busy playing 2nd base, pitcher and assorted other positions as needed for the North Perry Gators C string.
He played catcher for one game filling in for our regular catcher and taught the other team to respect his arm. They learned not to think about stealing third as he threw to third for an easy out. He was part of our league's all star team again this year.
He enjoyed having Mom and Dad's attention to himself while Elise was in Montana on a mission trip and at Creation Fest :). The end of summer brought the start of soccer season. He played on the same team as last year, but had a couple of friends join the team. They played hard and improved tremendously as the season progressed.
Mike and I have kept busy with our chauffeuring duties and homeschooling the kids. In May I switched from working evenings at a nursing home, to working night shift. This has been a good switch over all for all of us.
This year we finished up our studies of the eastern hemisphere with the emphasis on the cultures and history of Asia and Africa. This fall (7th grade & 6th grade) we started studying World History and have completed our studies of Egypt and Greece. In 2014 we are continuing on with Rome and Medieval history.
Grandma lived with us until July. At the end of the month she became ill, required hospitalization and moved into an adult family home. She seems to have settled into her new home and is doing as well there as can be expected. It is really nice to be able to enjoy a mother-daughter relationship again instead of being completely in the caregiver role.
