Materials:
2 17 ounce bottles (clear with straight sides)
food coloring (not yellow)
4 tablespoons of salt
tornado tube (I used a radiator hose)
white towel
room temperature tap water
flat canning jar lid
First I put salt and food coloring in one bottle. I filled it about half way with water and shook it to mix the salt, coloring and water. Then I filled it the rest of the way. Next I put the radiator hose into the other bottle and filled it all the way with tap water. I put the canning jar lid against the radiator hose and put that over the bottle of salt water. I removed the lid quickly and stuck the radiator hose into the bottle of salt water.
I laid the bottles on the table and let them sit to see what happened.
The salt water moved through the tube and into the other bottle. The salt water is more dense than fresh water and it sinks to the bottom forcing the fresh water out through the top.
This is near the end when the two sides have equal amounts of fresh water and equal amounts of salt water.
