Erik continues to play baseball and soccer. This year he was one of the North Perry Gators. He played a variety of positions including catcher; first, second and third base, short stop and pitcher. He had some great coaches this year!
We went whale watching and saw a couple of Minke whales in the San Juan Islands.
We were blessed this July with a new member of our family. Although he is little, he definitely manages to get his point across. Spicicle, the albino hedgehog, joined our family for Erik's birthday, much to Erik's delight. He's grown quite a bit since then, although he still fits comfortably in our hands. Spicicle LOVES to eat bugs and as a result we have been raising meal worms for him in our basement.
Elise got her first pair of Pointe Shoes a year ago and started dancing en pointe. (Since then she has also gotten her 2nd, 3rd and 4th pair.) After sampling several pairs, she is pleased to report that the Grishko 2007 is the best pointe shoe ever! (Mom and Dad are equally pleased about this, as these shoes are pricey and if they don't work, it means another shopping trip.) She also danced her first pointe role in the Nutcracker this year, Sugar Angel!
She also learned a little bit about quick changes as she had to get out of her angel costume (and pointe shoes) and into the next costume in just a few minutes.
This fall she joined our local company as a Junior member, which means even more dancing (and quick change) opportunities. She danced the part of "cat", "bottle" and "butterfly" in the School Tour show put on by the junior and apprentice company members. She takes ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip-hop and modern classes and can be found at the studio most nights of the week.
Elise and Erik are studying the Eastern Hemisphere for school this year. So far we have studied Oceania, Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, Japan, Korea, China and Mongolia. Erik is finishing up his studies of Russia and Central Asia. While Elise finishes up Southeast Asia and works her way into India. We had the opportunity to check out the King Tut exhibit, which was pretty amazing, although I think Erik's favorite part of that field trip was eating the piroshky we picked up at the market.
We also made a couple of trips to the zoo to see the Clouded Leopard cubs, including a visit to see them the day before they moved away to their new homes.
Grandma is still living with us and looks forward to her weekly movie night with a friend. They are enjoying watching Agatha Christie mysteries. She continues to enjoy crossword puzzle books and watches cooking shows most evenings.
