First Day of School

We started back to school today with the traditional "Back-to-School" pictures and a new tradition, a scavenger hunt. 

First day of 8th grade, age 13.5.

First day of 7th grade, age 12.
















For the scavenger hunt they had to carry a bag or backpack and a bible. They received verses to look up as clues to use in locating school supplies. 

The first clue directed them to birds nests (in this case a feeder). 

The second clue instructed them to "Enter His gates with thanksgiving..."

 They found treasures in the grapes...


















and where there was a light along the path.

While Erik read to find out where to go next, Elise checked out her new thumb drive.

Under the boat, Elise found their new Editor-in-Chief program.

Erik had actually found the treasure at the next clue before Elise found the clue to read. Oops, I guess I placed the items a little too close together. After finding an item in old bales of straw, they headed off to explore the beach house (under construction). Inside they found a "fiery furnace" and a "curtain" separating one part of the house from another. These were "just for fun" finds, new books! 

Elise got bobby pins and hair elastics, erasers, a thumb drive and a book.

Erik got mechanical pencils, erasers, a thumb drive and a book.  

They seem to think this is an acceptable new first day of school tradition ;). They seemed to enjoy this for their day's bible study, too.
